Healthy Living 30 Day Challenge – Tip for Day 9
Welcome to Day 9 of my Healthy Living 30 Day Challenge, created for my YogaNudge Facebook Group (which I hope you will join, if you aren’t yet a member).
And, if you’re a member of my Facebook group, I hope you downloaded my self-study tutorial 21 Days of Yoga (which is free for my FB group members) and started with the routine for Day 1.
Now, simply follow the routine for Day 2 to continue practicing yoga in the comfort of your own home.
And speaking of your home, that leads me to today’s tip:
Your home needs to be a healthy environment, and that means the air in your home should be as clean and free of toxins and allergens as possible. Follow some of the suggestions in this post and use at least one of them to make the air in your home just a bit cleaner today and every day.
4 Ways to Help Purify the Air in Your Home
1. Change the furnace/AC filter once a month.
This is easy to do, yet you can forget to do it if you don’t set a regular schedule for this.
We change the filter or our furnace/AC on the first day of each month.
You might want to do it on the last day of each month, or some other day.
The point is, set a date that you will stick to each month and then simply get a new furnace filter for that date each month.
You’ll probably notice that you don’t need to dust the furniture so often (or at least when you do dust, there is less dust on your dusting cloth) if you stick to this monthly schedule.
You and your family will probably breathe much easier, too.
2. Scatter plants throughout your home.
Houseplants are valuable additions to any home for a variety of reasons.
They’re attractive and they tend to make a room more inviting.
They are also good for purifying the air.
However, some plants are better for this than others, so try these:
° Boston Fern
° Palm Trees
° Rubber Plants & Janet Craigs
° English Ivy
° Peace Lily
° Golden Pothos
° Flowering Air Purifiers
You’ll find more information about each of these air-purifying plants here.
3. Put a Himalayan Pink Salt lamp in each of the bedroom and your work space (if you work at home).
Pink Himaylan salt lamps are supposed to have many health benefits.
One of those benefits is that they help purify the air.
You can read more about the health benefits of these lamps here, and decide for yourself if these lamps are for you.
I have one on my writing desk (in our bedroom) and I keep it on while I work.
In the evenings it becomes a soothing nightlight.
These lamps don’t purify a huge area of space, so you’ll need one for each room, so I suggest you just put them in the bedrooms and your office (if you work at home like I do).
4. Use a diffuser with essential oils that purify the air.
There are all sorts of room freshener sprays and plugins available today.
But to me, most of them smell artificial and really too strong.
I much prefer an infuser, which adds a more delicate, clean fragrance to any room.
Different essential oils offer different health benefits.
My favorite for purifying the air is one called Thieves.
Thieves oil was developed based on the ingredients found in the “Four Thieves Vinegar” or “Marseilles Vinegar.”
This vinegar was first prepared by thieves in the 15th century who robbed graves and didn’t want to get the plague.
It has a nice cinnamon and cloves scent.
Okay….so those are some ways to get cleaner air in your home.
Do you know other ways?
If so, please share them with us here in a comment.
Namaste,
Suzanne

My son sells salt lamps and we have 5 in our home. Set them by your electronics. They add negative ions to the air and the salt adds good air for your sinus and breathing.
Hi, Mardi,
Thanks for the tip. That’s good to know.

We change our air filters about every other month. I don’t have any plants to scatter because I have a black thumb and I can’t keep any of them alive :). I have been thinking about getting a salt lamp so I need to move that up on my list. Thanks for the suggestions and reminders of things to do to live healthy each day.
